My neighbor's one comment about caulk lines changed my whole bathroom job

I was sealing a tub in the rental I manage, just laying thick beads and wiping with my finger. The neighbor popped over to grab a drill and said 'you know you can tape both sides and get a razor line, right?' I laughed it off at first, but tried it on the second bathroom. Took an extra 10 minutes per run but the finish looked factory clean, no more wavy edges or smudges. Anyone else ever get a basic tip from a random onlooker that you still use years later?
