PSA: That chat with my neighbor about paint sheens changed how I do trim

I was talking to my neighbor Bob last weekend while we were both out scraping old paint off our porch rails. He mentioned he uses semi-gloss for all his interior trim because it shows dust less than gloss but still wipes clean easy. I've been using satin for years thinking it was the safe middle ground, but after trying his way on my hallway baseboards last Tuesday I gotta say the difference is real. The semi-gloss held up better to my dog's muddy paws too. Anyone else have a go-to sheen for trim that surprised you?

Wait did Bob mention how it looks under different lighting though?

Drove me crazy at first with my kitchen lights because it looked almost too shiny at noon, but once I got used to it I actually prefer the way it bounces light around the room. Bob's totally right about the dust thing too, I was wiping down my satin trim every other day and now with semi-gloss I can go a week easy. My beagle dragged in mud from the backyard last week and it came right off with a damp cloth, no scrubbing or anything.
