The $120 epoxy countertop kit that peeled in 3 months

I dropped $120 on a do-it-yourself epoxy kit for my bathroom vanity in April, followed the cure time to the letter, and by July the edges were flaking off like sunburned skin. Turns out my 60 year old counter had too much moisture trapped under the coating, and no amount of sanding fixed the bond. Anyone else get burned by self-leveling epoxy on old laminate, or should I just accept a butcher block swap next season?
