The big box store display kitchen made me question my own cabinets

I stopped by the Home Depot in Austin last Saturday just to grab paint, and the whole kitchen display setup got me thinking. Everyone online raves about soft-close hinges and full-extension drawers, but I felt those showrooms are selling a fantasy that ignores real walls. My 1980s cabinets with plain butt hinges have worked fine for 15 years, and they cost me nothing to refinish. Has anyone else walked a showroom and felt more confident in their dated setup, or am I the only one who thinks fancy hardware is a trap?
