TIL the hardware store in Bellingham has a whole aisle for 'vintage' plumbing parts.
Went there last weekend to fix a leaky faucet. Found a section with old brass valves and porcelain handles from the 1950s. They had a sign calling it 'character restoration'. Who knew you could buy a new-old toilet handle? Anyone else run into weird stuff like that while just trying to get a simple washer?

Trying to find a basic rubber washer and getting lost in a museum of old plumbing is the real test of patience. I once spent twenty minutes looking at a wall of faucet handles from before the moon landing. It's like they want you to give up and just let the thing drip forever. You go in for a ten minute job and come out wondering if your house needs a clawfoot tub.

The plumbing aisle at my local hardware store has a whole section labeled "vintage." It's just a bin of mismatched parts from the 70s. Feels like a scavenger hunt for something that should be simple.
