Felt vs foam for cat hoods, felt wins every time

I spent last weekend making a little dragon hood for my cat and tried both craft foam and felt for the spikes. Foam kept bending weird and looked floppy in photos, plus it was too stiff for her to move comfortably. The felt, on the other hand, held its shape after I layered two pieces and glued them together with hot glue. It cost me about $3 at the local Joann, and it took maybe 20 minutes to cut and assemble. My cat actually kept it on for a full 10 minutes before trying to chew it, which is a record for her. Has anyone else used interfacing to stiffen felt instead of buying the thick stuff? I'm curious if that gives the same upright look without extra weight.
