My sister said my dog costume looked "confusing" - she was right

I spent 3 hours making my pug into a bumblebee. Wings, antenna, yellow stripes. She said nobody would get it. I was mad at first. But she was right. The wings just looked like floppy fabric. Now I pick one clear thing like a hot dog bun or a lion mane. Simple reads better. Has anyone else had a costume that just didn't click?
