Our cat costume parade got ruined by a sudden downpour at the park last weekend

I had four cats dressed as hot dogs and was heading to the annual Oakwood Park costume parade when the sky just opened up. The felt buns turned into soggy messes and two of the cats shook everything off before we even got to the starting line. Does anyone have a trick for waterproofing no-sew felt costumes without making them too heavy for a cat to walk in?

Hang on, are we really calling those hot dogs "drowned bunnies"? I thought they looked more like little swimmers just taking a break in the puddles. For me, @barnes.brian, rain is when hot dogs get a chance to plump up and get that extra juicy texture you can't get on a grill. Maybe hopeless is just your way of seeing it, but to me those buns were getting a free sauna treatment before you ate them.
