That cat costume gave me a scare at the vet clinic

Last Tuesday I brought my dog Milo to the vet in a homemade hot dog costume, and the receptionist said it was the third pet that week with eye irritation from cheap felt glued near their face. She showed me a photo of a cat whose corneas got scratched by stiff, sharp-edged fabric scraps that someone used for a taco costume. Have any of you had to adjust your pet costumes after realizing the materials were dangerous for their eyes or skin?

It seems like we keep choosing style over safety in so many areas of life and our pets end up paying for it.

That phrase "style over safety" is exactly it. Like those designer dog collars that are all metal studs and chains, look cool but weigh a ton and can actually hurt a small dog's neck over time. Or the trendy "flat faced" breeds that people pay thousands for, even though they can barely breathe and need surgery just to live somewhat normal lives. It's wild how we'll choose a look for our pets that makes them uncomfortable or unhealthy, and then act surprised when they have problems. Even stuff like those super tight harnesses made of thin nylon straps, they look sleek on Instagram but dig into their skin if they pull at all. We're literally prioritizing a photo op over their basic comfort.

Is it bad that I've totally been that person with the thin nylon harness because it matched my dog's collar perfectly? Yeah, my pup definitely paid for that one with some chafed armpits before I wised up and got something that actually fits her right.
