Am I the only one who thinks closed terrariums are way harder than open ones?
I've been building terrariums for about 8 months now and I finally tried a closed setup last week after 5 open ones. My open terrariums with succulents and sandy soil? They thrive with almost no effort. Just water every 2 weeks and they're happy. But that closed jar with fittonia and moss? It got mold on day 3 and I had to rip everything out. I think the humidity control is way trickier than people admit. Open ones let you mess up and still bounce back. Closed ones seem to punish every little mistake. Anyone else find one approach clearly better than the other?

Closed terrariums aren't that deep, just keep the lid off for a few hours a day to let it breathe. People overcomplicate it.

Fair enough but "just leave the lid off for a few hours" isn't always that simple... you're basically changing the whole humidity balance in there every time you crack it open. Moss and ferns are pretty sensitive, they'll start browning out if the moisture level keeps bouncing around. I've watched people kill expensive setups by messing with them too much trying to get it "perfect." Some of those little ecosystems are fragile and need stable conditions to really settle in. Not saying it's rocket science, but it's a little more careful than just taking the top off whenever you feel like it.
