Had a brutal week with a moss wall project gone wrong

I spent last Thursday through Saturday trying to get a vertical moss wall to stay attached to a piece of driftwood in a 20-gallon terrarium I was building for a client in Portland. The moss kept sliding off no matter what glue I used, and I finally figured out that the driftwood had a weird waxy coating that nothing would stick to until I sanded it down. Has anyone else run into a surface issue like that on a big project and found a quick fix that actually worked?

Man I literally had a MOSS HEART ATTACK last month when I tried to glue some sheet moss onto a plastic skull for a Halloween terrarium and it just slid off like a greased pig. Turns out sanding the plastic was the fix, but only after I'd already thrown a whole jar of Mod Podge at it in frustration. Your driftwood story makes me feel WAY better about my own dumb struggles with sticky stuff.

Oh man, "moss heart attack" is the perfect way to describe that panic when your project just refuses to cooperate. I've done the same thing with mod podge on smooth surfaces, just globbing it on thicker and thicker thinking sheer force of glue would eventually win. It never does, of course, and you just end up with a sticky mess and a wet spot on the floor where you dropped the whole thing. Sanding is one of those lessons you gotta learn the hard way, at least once, and your Halloween skull story makes my driftwood saga feel like small potatoes.
