My neighbor's moss jar made me stop using tap water

I was showing my new closed terrarium to my neighbor, an old guy who grows bonsai. He pointed at the white crust on the glass and said, 'That's your city water, kid. It's killing the small stuff.' He explained that the minerals build up and slowly change the soil. I've been using filtered water for three days now and the new growth looks much happier. Anyone else switch their water source and see a big change?

Totally makes sense for closed systems. Tap water leaves behind all that hard mineral residue. My plants always do better with rainwater or filtered.

My monstera got brown tips for months until I switched to filtered water. The difference is crazy.
