Open vs. closed terrariums - which actually works better for succulents?

I built two identical succulent setups 6 months ago, one open and one sealed, thinking the closed one would keep humidity up. The closed one got moldy fast while the open one is thriving, but I see tons of posts online saying succulents do fine in sealed terrariums. Has anyone else had better luck with one style over the other?

Yeah that sounds about right honestly. I tried a closed terrarium once with some Echeveria and it was a disaster moss and rot everywhere within weeks. Succulents just hate that wet stagnant air no matter what anyone says online. Open terrariums let the soil dry out properly which is what they actually need. I think a lot of those pretty sealed terrarium pics you see are either staged right after planting or they're using fake plants.

Exactly, @mason_jackson nailed it, sealed terrariums are just death traps for succulents.
