The moss I bought on a whim saved my terrarium from going moldy
I was pretty skeptical about buying that fancy live moss from a specialty shop for $12 a bag. Figured regular stuff from my backyard would work fine. After my third terrarium got that gross white fuzz all over it, I caved and ordered the good stuff. Turns out the moss people sell for terrariums is actually grown to resist mold and rot. It's been three months now and my glass jar is still green and healthy. Has anyone else had their homemade moss just fall apart after a few weeks?

yo no way! i had the exact same problem with my first few terrariums. the cheap moss from my yard always turned into moldy mush within like two weeks. finally grabbed a bag of the good stuff from a local plant shop and it made such a huge difference. i think the store bought stuff is treated or something to keep it from rotting. also i started using a layer of charcoal at the bottom of my jars and that helped alot too. your jar sounds like its doing great now, glad it worked out.

i think the store bought stuff is treated" - yeah thats probably it. kinda wild how much better things work when you get the proper version instead of trying to hack it with random stuff from outside. its like that with a lot of stuff honestly, not just plants. tried using regular tape for a package once instead of packing tape and regretted it big time lol.
