TIL not everyone seals their terarium lids anymore
I opened a jar the other day from 2018 and it still had moisture on the glass. People skip the silicone bead around the rim now. Why risk mold when a $3 tube of aquarium sealant fixes it for good?

Skip the silicone if you want, but you'll be back in 6 months scraping black mold off the glass. I learned that the hard way with a moss jar back in 2016. A bead of aquarium sealant around the rim is cheap insurance and takes 10 minutes to apply. Let it cure for 24 hours before you close the lid and you're set for years.

Mold's gonna grow if there's moisture trapped in there regardless of the sealant. I've seen plenty of sealed jars get nasty because people didn't let things dry out before closing them up. A smear of silicone won't fix bad maintenance habits.

Wait, people are actually sealing terrariums from 2018 and expecting them to stay mold-free?
