Took me 3 tries to realize I was overwatering my terrarium

I kept wondering why my moss was turning brown and slimy after a week, then I noticed the bottom inch of my jar had standing water. Turns out I was adding too much water every time because I thought the soil looked dry on top, but the charcoal layer underneath was totally soaked. Anyone else learn the hard way that less water is more?

the bottom inch of my jar had standing water" - WAIT, you had a FULL INCH of water sitting there? That is INSANE. I thought I was bad, I had maybe half an inch once and I freaked out and dumped the whole thing out. How did you not notice the soil getting all heavy? I swear the second I see ANY water at the bottom I start panicking and tilting the jar to drain it.

Isn't it funny how that happens with so many things in life though? We see a problem and dump more of the solution on it when the real fix is just backing off and letting nature do its thing. Kinda like how I used to blast my plants with fertilizer until I realized they were just fine with way less.

A full inch of standing water, that's wild. I've had maybe a quarter inch once and felt like I was drowning the whole thing. But hey, @troy_owens is right about nature sorting itself out if you just step back.
