Watched a guy at the bar convince me to switch from sphagnum moss to leca for my terrarium

He was sitting there nursing a PBR and told me his closed terrarium had lasted 4 years without mold just by switching to leca balls as the drainage layer, so I finally gave it a shot last weekend, have any of you made the switch and regretted it?

Oh man, a PBR and terrarium advice... that's a combo you don't hear every day. I switched to leca once and my plants looked sad for like two months before I caved and went back to dirt. Hope that guy's beer was worth the gamble on your terrarium's future...

Yeah that "sad for like two months" line hit home. Swapping to leca was a mess for me too at first, but I gave it a solid season and finally got the hang of it once I added a wicking system to keep the roots moist. Now my plants actually do better in it than dirt, but man was that adjustment period rough.
