Can we talk about the time I tried making a glue gun table from dollar store cutting boards?

So I had this idea to make a little work station for my hot glue gun using those cheap plastic cutting boards from Dollar Tree. Figured it'd be quick, like 20 minutes tops. Cut them into shape, tried to glue them together with epoxy I also got there. Problem was the epoxy took forever to set, like 4 hours before it even felt tacky. Then when I finally put it together, the whole thing fell apart because the plastic just didn't bond right. I ended up spending 6 hours on this stupid project that I could have built from scrap wood in 30 minutes. Has anyone else found a glue that actually works on dollar store plastic stuff, or is it just a lost cause?

DId you degrease the plastic first? Those cutting boards come with that factory coating that makes everything slide off. Even sanding might not work if there's still residue.

Wait, did you try roughing up the plastic with sandpaper before applying the glue? I mean, those dollar store cutting boards have that slick, smooth surface that pretty much repels everything. I saw a guy at my bar once fix a broken plastic tray by scoring it with a box cutter first and then using super glue. The scratches gave the glue something to grab onto. Might be worth a shot if you still have the pieces lying around.
