Had to pick between contact paper and spray paint for my old nightstand

I was trying to fix up a beat up nightstand I got for $5 and couldn't decide between covering it with dollar store contact paper or giving it a coat of their spray paint. Went with the spray paint because I figured it'd hold up better on drawers that slide in and out. Took like 3 coats but it actually looks solid and no peeling after a month. Has anyone tried both and found one lasts longer?

My friend tried contact paper on her dresser and it was peeling within a week, lol.

Oh yeah, "within a week" sounds about right for the dollar store stuff. But it's not really the contact paper itself that's the problem most of the time, it's the surface prep. If you just slap it on without cleaning the dresser really well first, especially getting rid of any wax or polish residue, it's gonna peel no matter what brand you use. My sister did the same thing on her nightstand and it lasted like three days before bubbling up. You gotta wipe it down with rubbing alcohol first, let it dry completely, then apply it with a squeegee or even a credit card to push out all the air bubbles. It's a pain but it makes a huge difference.
