Just realized my Dollar Store cutting mats work BETTER than the expensive ones for acrylic pouring

I was watching this YouTube tutorial by a woman in Columbus who does fluid art, and she mentioned she uses the clear plastic cutting boards from Dollar Tree instead of pricey silicone mats. She said the paint slides off easier and they're way easier to clean. I tried it last week with a $1.25 mat and some cheap craft paint from the same store, and she was 100% right - no peeling or sticking at all. Has anyone else found random Dollar Store stuff that outdoes the fancy version for art projects?

Honestly, that thing about the paint sliding off easier is wild. I gotta ask though, are you using a torch to pop bubbles on those Dollar Tree mats or just letting it self level? I tried one with a heat gun and it kinda warped a tiny bit on the edges, nothing major but I'm paranoid about ruining a piece mid pour. Tbh I've been using the silicone baking mats from the kitchen section and they work fine but they're a pain to clean. If the cheap mats really don't stick or peel after like 10 pours that's a game changer. I just wonder if the heat thing is a real issue or if I'm overthinking it.

@lewis.charlie honestly I just let them self level unless I get a really stubborn bubble, then I hit it with a quick torch pass from way back. My Dollar Tree mats have held up for like 15 pours with no peeling or warping, even with heat. The silicone kitchen mats are great but yeah, cleaning them is a nightmare compared to these. You're probably fine with the heat gun if you keep it moving, but I'd test on a corner first just to be safe.
