Last week I made a bird feeder out of a 2 dollar cutting board and some twine from the dollar store.

I hung it on the maple tree in my backyard on Tuesday and a blue jay showed up by Thursday, has anyone else had luck with dollar store bird feeders holding up in the rain?

My sister put one up last fall and a squirrel chewed through the twine in like 3 days, but the cutting board part still looked fine after a week of rain. I think dollar store stuff is hit or miss honestly, depends if you get the thicker twine or the cheap stuff that falls apart. I had a plastic one from there that warped after one storm, but I've seen people use silicone caulk on the edges to waterproof them. Blue jays are territorial too, so yours might chase off other birds, but at least it shows up quick.

Oh man, that twine thing is too real. I hung up a cheap feeder once and the first gust of wind took the whole thing down like it was a kite, then a raccoon absolutely destroyed it overnight. I swear I could hear it laughing from the shed. Of course I went back and bought the same exact model because clearly I'm a glutton for punishment. At least the birds got a few good days out of it before I had to sweep up the plastic shards.
