My brother called my dollar store bird feeder a 'death trap'

I built this bird feeder out of a cheap plastic bowl and some popsicle sticks, and my brother took one look and said 'that thing is gonna dump seeds on the ground in a week.' He was right, I used hot glue and it fell apart after two rains. So I switched to silicone caulk and added a little rim made from a dollar store cutting board to keep the food in place. Has anyone else had a project get roasted by family and then actually improve from the criticism?

Ditched a whole batch of homemade hummingbird nectar because my sister said it looked "cloudy and gross." Turned out she was right, I was using tap water with too much chlorine in it. Now I boil the water first and let it cool, and the birds actually drink it instead of flying right past.

Yeah, thats such a good point @the_mia. It's wild how many little things like that just get overlooked until someone points them out. I had the same thing with my coffee maker a few months back - thought my beans were stale, turned out I was using hard tap water and it was gunking up the machine. Boiled it once and suddenly the coffee actually tasted right. Makes you wonder what else we're all just putting up with that could be fixed with one small change.
