So I doubted the $1.25 spray paint for furniture, then my nightstand made me eat my words

Honestly, I've been on this Dollar Store DIY sub for about 6 months and always skipped the paint aisle. I figured the $1.25 Rust-Oleum knockoff couldn't hold up on anything bigger than a picture frame. But last week I had to refinish this ugly brown nightstand I found on the curb, and I didn't want to spend $12 at Home Depot for one can. So I grabbed the cheap brand from Dollar Tree, did two thin coats with a foam roller, and let it dry 48 hours in my garage in Austin. It's been 5 days now, no chipping, no weird stickiness, and my cat has already jumped on it twice. The finish is actually matte and smooth, not that chalky mess I expected. Is this just a fluke with this specific color, or has anyone else had luck with their spray paint on real wood? I'm thinking about doing my kitchen chairs next but I'm still nervous.
