Is it REALLY that bad though? Like are you sure it's not just that new plastic smell that goes away after a few hours? I feel like people overreact to that stuff all the time, it's probably just the adhesive or something heating up a little. Unless you literally see smoke or the strips are getting hot to the touch, I wouldn't worry too much about it.
