Spent $5 on a dollar store drain snake and it saved me a plumbing bill
My kitchen sink has been draining slow for weeks and I kept putting off calling a plumber. I was about to pay $150 for a service call when my neighbor said just try a cheap drain snake first. So I walked down to the dollar store and grabbed one for $5. That little plastic thing with the barbs pulled out a huge clump of hair and grease from the pipe. Water runs perfect now and I feel dumb for almost wasting all that money. Has anyone else had luck with dollar store tools for basic home fixes?

But honestly, has anyone actually had a dollar store snake break off inside their pipe? I just got one too and it worked great, but now I'm paranoid about yanking too hard. Like, the plastic seemed pretty flimsy compared to the metal ones at Home Depot, and I kept thinking what if a barb snaps off and gets stuck down there? My neighbor said his buddy had that happen and ended up making the clog way worse. Just wondering if that's a real risk or if I'm overthinking it.

That drain snake is honestly one of the best five bucks I ever spent. Same thing happened to me with bathroom sink, pulled out a whole hair monster. Dollar store tools definitely have their moments.
