The dollar store hot glue gun caught fire after 20 minutes of use

I was trying to make a jewelry organizer out of a picture frame and some clothespins when smoke started pouring out of the handle, and now I'm wondering if the cheap ones are even worth the $2.50 or if I should just save up for a real one from the craft store - has anyone else had a glue gun literally melt on them mid-project?

Yeah I used to think a glue gun is a glue gun, no big deal. But after one melted the plastic trigger onto my fingers I totally changed my mind. Never again with the cheap ones, that fire story is scary.

Invest in a proper Wagner glue gun. Those dollar store ones are fire hazards waiting to happen.
