Unpopular opinion: hot glue gun vases vs. real clay pots

I used to spend $5 a pop on actual clay pots from the garden center for my succulents. Then I started making vases out of dollar store glass candle holders and hot glue patterns on the outside, painting them with $1 acrylics. They look way more unique and cost about 75 cents each, but they're not as sturdy and the paint chips after a few months. Which side do you fall on - do you prefer the cheap custom look or just stick with the real deal that lasts?

Do you actually want to be repainting your planters every few months? Because that sounds like a chore, not a hobby. A real clay pot might cost a few bucks more, but it doesn't flake paint onto my windowsill or crack the first time I accidentally knock it over. I'll take boring and durable over custom and chipping every time. Plus, hot glue patterns look pretty rough up close after a week of sunlight hitting them.

Yeah that's just how it goes with cheap shortcuts in ANYTHING.
