A 5 minute layer swap turned into a 3 hour nightmare in AutoCAD

I was working on a set of electrical plans for a warehouse remodel last week and needed to swap a bunch of circuits from layer A to layer B. Should have taken 5 minutes with the layer translator, right? Turns out someone had buried 200+ blocks on the wrong layer with frozen layers and nested xrefs. Took me 3 hours of digging through the drawing and fixing it manually, and I still missed a couple. Has anyone else run into a hidden layer mess that ate up your whole afternoon?

Someone had buried 200+ blocks on the wrong layer with frozen layers and nested xrefs" - that's on you for not catching it sooner, honestly. If you're doing electrical plans on a warehouse remodel, you should know what's in your xrefs before you start swapping layers. I get that it's frustrating, but a 5 minute task turning into 3 hours sounds like a planning problem, not an AutoCAD glitch. The tool works fine if you set up your layers right from the start and keep things clean. Why weren't you checking the drawing setup before you jumped into the layer translator?

Sure it's a planning issue, but sometimes you inherit a mess you didn't make and the translator just makes it worse." The real problem is the tool not warning you about nested xrefs or frozen layers before you commit the changes.
