Question about the 'must use' rule for 3D models in every drawing

I keep seeing people say you have to put a 3D model in every single drawing file, even for simple flat patterns. At my old shop in Tacoma, we wasted so much time linking models to basic 2D layouts that didn't need it. For a recent ductwork job, I just drafted the flat pattern directly in 2D and it saved three hours of setup and file management. Has anyone else found that the 3D-first rule isn't always the best way?

What kind of jobs are you working on where a flat pattern needs a 3D model? I've only seen that rule for complex assemblies.

Honestly depends on the shop's workflow I guess. Seen places get real strict about it for revision tracking, even on simple stuff.
