Showerthought: my old habit of freehanding shop drawings on scrap paper cost me a whole week last month

I was doing a simple garage addition for a client in Spokane and my rough sketch for the foundation pad was off by about six inches, which the concrete crew poured before anyone caught it. I finally switched to doing even the smallest sketches in my drafting software now, which forces me to be precise from the start. How many of you still sketch things out by hand before putting them into the system?

Oof, that's a rough way to learn that lesson. Bet that six inch gap is now the world's most expensive planter box or something. My old boss used to freehand everything on napkins and we'd spend half the day just trying to decode his coffee-stained dimensions. Software might feel like overkill for a quick idea, but at least it doesn't let you forget a whole chunk of wall.

Ugh, did you have to eat the cost for that fix yourself? I mean, that's a brutal way to learn.

A six inch gap in a wall is a crazy expensive mistake.
