Took me 5 years to admit I was laying out my floor plans wrong on accident

I always started with the exterior walls and worked inward. Read a blog post from some architect in Ohio last week who said to start with the stairs and vertical circulation instead. Tried it on a duplex I'm drafting now and holy cow everything lines up way better. The hallway widths actually make sense and the rooms don't end up weirdly shaped. Anyone else do it backwards for years without realizing?

Totally agree. Stairs are the spine, everything else is just ribs.
