Vent: Thought layer management was overhyped until I lost 3 hours on a single floor plan
I used to roll my eyes at guys who talked about layer management in AutoCAD (like, who cares right?). Then last Tuesday I had a client ask for a revision on a commercial floor plan for a diner in Toledo, and my layers were a total mess. I spent 3 hours hunting down lines and dimensions that were all on the wrong layer because I was too lazy to set them up right from the start. After that disaster, I finally set up a clean system with separate layers for walls, plumbing, and electrical, and it saved my butt on the next job. Has anyone else had a similar moment where a 'basic' skill totally bailed you out?

Oh man, that layer struggle is real. It's one of those boring setup things that saves you hours later when you finally do it right. Glad you got it sorted before the next job!

Have you ever skipped setting up the layers right and then had to go back and fix everything mid-project? I've definitely learned that lesson the hard way way too many times. It feels like a waste of time at first, but it's honestly one of those things that just makes the whole job run smoother in the end. Better to spend an extra few minutes upfront than to be stuck unpicking or redoing things later. Your mileage may vary, but I've found that once you get the system down, it becomes second nature and you don't even think about it anymore.
