Can we talk about getting called out on dredge pump packing?

Last month a older foreman watched me repack a pump and said my rope was twisted wrong. I was doing it the same way for 10 years. He showed me this trick where you cut each ring at a 45 degree angle and stagger the gaps. Now my pumps barely drip instead of spraying everywhere. Any of you guys try this or got a better way to seat the packing?

That 45 degree cut trick really is a game changer once you see it work. I've noticed this same pattern in a bunch of other stuff too, like how small tweaks in how you tie a knot or even how you arrange tools in your box can make a huge difference. It's funny how we get stuck doing things one way for years just because nobody showed us the better way. That older foreman probably learned that trick from someone older than him, and now you'll probably pass it along too.

Makes you wonder what else we've been doing half-assed for a decade without knowing it...
