Thought I fixed a clogged pump in 20 minutes - took me 4 hours and a lot of swearing
Was running a small job near a creek and the suction line kept losing prime. Turned out a chunk of buried telephone cable had wrapped around the impeller, not just some leaves. Anyone else had random junk like that hide in the muck and waste your whole afternoon?

Man that was me last month pulling a busted up plastic grocery bag out of a sump pump. Thought it would be a quick five minute snag and it turned into two hours of fishing around with a coat hanger and cussing like a sailor. Sometimes the junk that gets in there is just plain mean, like it knows you're in a hurry. At least you got it sorted even if your afternoon got trashed.

Oh man, @the_robert really nailed it with that "junk knows you're in a hurry" thing, that's way too real. I swear those plastic bags have a personal vendetta against sump pumps (or maybe against my sanity?). It's like they dissolve into a million tiny clingy pieces the second you touch them with the coat hanger, making the whole thing ten times worse. I bet yours was that same cheapo bag from the dollar store too, the one that disintegrates if you look at it wrong. At least we both learned the hard way that sump pumps are basically black holes for garbage, and now we're scarred for life.
