Vent: Took me 4 hours to figure out a simple sand clog in the cutterhead

Honestly, I was out on a pond job near Greenville last Tuesday and the suction just dropped to nothing. I spent almost 4 hours checking the pump, the lines, even the engine RPM before I finally looked at the cutterhead itself. Turned out a fist-sized rock was wedged between the teeth, blocking the intake. Felt pretty dumb after all that, but at least I know now to check the head first next time. Has anyone else had a similar issue where the problem was right in front of you?

Had a similar thing happen on a job last fall. Spent an hour troubleshooting a loss of suction, turned out a big glob of mud and roots was wrapped around the cutterhead shaft. Now I always give the head a quick visual check before anything else.

Oh man, that reminds me of something that happened with my brother's old pressure washer. He kept losing pressure and couldn't figure it out for the longest time. Turns out a little piece of gravel had gotten lodged in the unloader valve somehow. I guess stuff just finds its way into the weirdest spots on equipment. Now I always tell people to just peek at the obvious spots first before diving into the hard stuff.
