Overheard a lady at Michael's saying dried flowers are 'dead plants' and it got to me
I was grabbing some eucalyptus for a new arrangement last Saturday and this woman told her friend dried flowers are just 'dead plants you pay $12 for'. At first I was annoyed, but then I thought about it - she's not wrong from a certain angle, but she's missing the whole point of preserving the beauty. Has anyone else run into folks who just don't get why we bother drying them?

The thing is, she's only half right... dried flowers aren't really dead in the way she means. They're preserved at their peak, like a good photograph. You wouldn't call a pressed rose from your grandma's wedding "dead plants" would you? It's about keeping a moment alive, not just throwing away something that's wilted. Plus, if you dry them properly they last way longer than fresh ones, so you're actually getting more for your money in the long run. She just sounds like someone who hasn't found the right flower shop yet.
