Thought eucalyptus would last forever, boy was I wrong

I hung a big bundle of eucalyptus in my kitchen 3 months ago because everyone said it dries perfectly. Looked great for about 6 weeks, then all the leaves started dropping off and making a mess on my counter. Turns out the stems were too thick and the moisture got trapped inside. Now I only use thinner branches and keep them in a warm dry spot for 2 weeks before arranging. Anyone else had eucalyptus go bad on them?

Why does everyone act like drying eucalyptus is some ancient secret you gotta unlock? My buddy Tom tried the whole hanging thing in his garage for a month. He was so proud of it, put it in a big vase on his dining table. Looked amazing for maybe 5 weeks. Then he walked in one morning and the whole thing just dumped a pile of leaves across his placemats. He said it looked like a sick plant exploded. Now he just buys those little bags of dried eucalyptus from the craft store and tosses them when they get sad. Works way better that way.

3 months is honestly impressive, I had a bundle that started dropping leaves after like 3 weeks and I was so mad. I followed all the Pinterest tips too, hung it upside down in a dark closet for a month before even putting it out. Thought I was being smart, nope, still ended up with crunchy leaf bits all over my floor every time I walked past. The funny thing is my friend bought one of those dried eucalyptus wreaths from a craft fair and hers looks perfect after a year, guess some people just get lucky with the stems. I honestly think it's a total crapshoot whether theyll dry right or just turn into a mess. Now I just buy fake ones from Michael's when theyre on sale and call it a day.

My sister switched to dried lavender after her eucalyptus disaster and now she won't shut up about it.
