My bilge pump failed at 2am during a thunderstorm last Tuesday
I woke up to water sloshing around my cabin sole. The pump just quit, no warning. It was a Rule 500 that I had installed about 18 months ago. I grabbed a spare Rule 500 I keep in the locker and swapped it out half-asleep in the rain. Took me maybe 20 minutes but my bilge was already ankle deep. Anyone else keep a spare pump on board or do you just wait for it to die first?

Rule 500s are notorious for just quitting like that, guess the magic smoke finally escaped. Ankle deep bilge at 2am is basically a free workout with bonus heart palpitations. Pro tip next time just throw the spare pump in with a prayer and hope you don't trip over your toolbox.

You keep a spare too? Smart. I just cross my fingers and hope mine holds out.
