That head gasket fix using a $2 tube of epoxy held for three months
Last winter off the coast of Charleston, my heat exchanger started weeping coolant into the bilge, and I couldn't find a replacement gasket anywhere. A buddy who's been living aboard since the '90s told me to clean the mating surface and smear on some JB Weld, figuring it'd buy me a week. It's been three months and zero leaks, has anyone else tried a quick fix that just wouldn't quit?

That JB Weld definitely has a different sense of time than the rest of us. My entire fuel system is basically held together by zip ties and pure denial at this point, so I'm with you.

Man that's hilarious. I swear boat fixes are held together by pure spite and luck sometimes. I had a carburetor float on my old outboard that I fixed with a piece of a wine cork and a zip tie, and it ran better than the factory part for two seasons. I cannot believe how often duct tape and epoxy outlast the actual proper repair. So what's the plan now, just roll with the JB Weld until it sinks or you sell the boat?
