That week my freshwater pump died and I learned way too much about plumbing

Last Tuesday my pump started making this weird knocking sound around 2 AM. I thought it was just air in the lines so I bled it and went back to bed. Woke up Wednesday morning to zero pressure and water everywhere in the bilge. Turns out the diaphragm had a crack the size of my thumbnail. I spent the next three days living off jug water and taking sponge baths with a bucket. The worst part was finding a replacement pump that fit my tight budget and tiny cabinet space. Finally got a Jabsco off Craigslist for 60 bucks from a guy who was selling his trawler. Has anyone else had a pump fail at the absolute worst time and what did you use as a temp fix?

Man, ain't that always the way? Mine gave out on a Friday evening right before a long holiday weekend, and I was boiling pasta water in a stockpot to wash my face.

Everything breaking at the worst possible time is just the universe's sick sense of humor. It's like appliances have a built-in radar for holidays and weekends. They sit there working fine for months, then the second you're about to have three days off with nowhere to buy a new one, they just quit. I swear they coordinate with each other too. Your hot water heater goes and then a month later your fridge starts making that death rattle sound. It's a cycle. You spend your whole life just waiting for the next thing to fail, but you can't prep for it because they always pick the exact wrong moment.
