A client in Phoenix said I was taping seams too fast
He pointed out a hairline crack in a year old job and said rushing the mud drying time was the cause. I always thought speed was key, but now I'm adding a full extra day for drying between coats on big projects. Anyone else slow down after a callback like that?

Oh man, I learned that lesson the hard way on a basement job!

Yeah, my buddy had a similar thing happen on a big commercial job. He rushed the drying on some ceiling seams to meet a deadline, and a whole section cracked like a spiderweb a few months later. The GC made him redo it all on his own dime. He doesn't even look at a calendar on humid days now, just feels the mud with his hand.

Tbh, I can't believe he just goes by feel now instead of checking the damn humidity gauge. @maxm63 that's a next level trust your gut move after a disaster like that. Ngl, rushing drywall seams on a deadline sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen, and the GC making him eat the whole redo is brutal but fair. I've seen guys lose their shirt over that exact mistake more times than I can count. Honestly, your buddy's method sounds crazy but if it works, it works.
