Customer asked me to fix a single dimple in her wall

Last Tuesday in Portland I get a call from a lady. She points at this tiny little dent on her living room wall. I showed up with 4 tools and she asked why I needed all that for "one small thing." Anyone else get calls for jobs that take longer to drive to than to fix?

Nah man you're looking at this all wrong. That lady was right to question why you needed four tools. A dimple that small you could fix with a wet finger and some spackle on a napkin. You're acting like you were doing open heart surgery on her wall. Sometimes less is more.

Last time I had a little hole like that, I just used a glob of spackle from a sample jar I got for like two bucks at the hardware store. Smoothed it with my finger, let it dry, sanded it down with a piece of cardboard. Took maybe ten minutes total and you couldn't even tell it was there when I was done. Honestly, the less fuss you make over tiny repairs, the better they turn out. Sometimes you just gotta trust your hands and not overthink it.
