Finished my 200th board yesterday, still don't get the hype about pre-filling.
I been doing drywall for about 5 years and hit 200 sheets hung in one go yesterday on a house in Austin. Everyone says you gotta pre-fill your butt joints before taping, but I just tape and mud in one pass and it's always held up fine. Any other guys out there skip the pre-fill step?

Skip the pre-fill every time. Used to do it when I started but it just adds an extra step that doesn't change anything. The mud shrinks a little but if you lay your tape on thick enough it covers fine. I've gone back to jobs two years later and never saw a crack or a bubble. Pre-filling is for guys who don't trust their mud or their tape.
