Hot take: using a 12 inch knife for the first coat instead of a 14 inch one

I mean, I always used a 14 inch knife for my first coat on big flats, but on a job in Tempe last month I tried a 12 inch because that's all I had clean. It was way easier to control and left way less mud to sand later, idk maybe it's just me but the smaller blade felt faster. Has anyone else switched to a smaller knife for the first pass?

Wait is this actually a thing people argue about? It's just a knife size, man.

Betty's right, it's just a knife size. But the original post has a point. A twelve inch is lighter and you can move it faster. Less mud means less work later. I switched last year and won't go back.

Forget the 14, a 12 is just easier to handle. You're right about less sanding.
