Just found out from a 2021 trade journal that a 4x12 sheet of 5/8" fire-rated board weighs 2.3 pounds per square foot. That's over 110 pounds a sheet! No wonder my back hurts.

That weight spec is why the fire marshal in my old city started requiring two-man lifts for any sheet over 80 pounds on commercial sites. It wasn't just about backs, it was a huge liability thing if someone dropped one. A lot of guys got written up for trying to muscle it up a ladder alone. The code might not say it, but the inspector's sticker sure did.

We used a panel hoist for a ceiling job last year. It was a cheap rental from the local tool place, maybe forty bucks a day. Saved our shoulders from that exact same weight.

Forget the rental cost, just get a couple strong guys and get it done faster.
