Learned the hard way about mud drying too fast on a hot day
I was finishing a ceiling job on Tuesday and the hot mud was setting up before I could even get it smoothed out. Had to scrape off a whole bucket and start over with a slower set mix. Anyone else deal with this in summer temps?

80 minute stuff on a 95 degree day without a cooler is basically suicide, I swear. I had a bucket start smoking (literally smoking, like steam coming off it) before I could even get the trowel wet. What finally worked for me was pre-chilling the mixing water with a couple ice cubes and keeping the mud bucket in the shade with a wet towel over it.

Man I don't know if I'd call it suicide, that seems a little dramatic. I've mixed mud in 95 degree heat plenty of times and it was fine, just needed to work a little faster.
