PSA: My new mud pan from a tool sale in Boise has a weird lip on it.

I was taping a ceiling yesterday and kept getting these little ridges in my joint compound every time I loaded my knife. Turns out the inside edge of the pan isn't smooth, it's got a tiny raised seam. What's the best way to fix this, just sand it down smooth?

My buddy had the same thing with a pan from a big box store. He used a fine metal file like @thea246 said, just a few light passes. It took that lip right off. He wiped it down with a rag after to get any metal dust out. Said it worked perfect and didn't mess up the finish.

Ever try a fine metal file on that?

Ugh, that's so annoying when a new tool has a flaw like that! A fine file should work great to knock that seam down. Hope it sands out easy for you.
