Showerthought: Thought mud masks were a gimmick till I used one on a ceiling patch
I always figured mud masks were just for show, but I had a bad ceiling repair in Phoenix last week and tried one. The dust control was way better than anything else I've used, saved me an hour of cleanup. Has anyone else had a tool they laughed at that ended up working?

Dude, I had the exact same thing happen with a paint edger. Picked one up for like 8 bucks at Ace Hardware thinking it was just a lazy person's tool. Ended up using it on a textured wall in my hallway and it was a total game changer, no more cutting in with tape or shaky hands. I actually bought two more the next day because I was so impressed. It's wild how the stuff that looks like a gimmick sometimes works better than the fancy gear.

My neighbor used a drywall knife for
patching holes and swore by it for years.
