Watched a buddy tape vs mud a seam and switched sides overnight

I always thought taping with mesh was faster, no contest. My coworker showed me his finished corner from a job last week and I couldn't find the seam at all. He used paper tape and a 6 inch knife, took him maybe 4 minutes. The difference after the mud dried was night and day, no bubbles or ridges. I tried paper on my next closet and the finish was way smoother. Anyone else find paper tape just looks better after the third coat?

Ha yeah I feel you on that. I tried paper tape once and ended up with more wrinkles than my grandpa's forehead, total disaster. But when it goes right the finish is honestly so clean it makes mesh look like amateur hour.

Wait paper tape took you 4 minutes? That's CRAZY fast for a corner. I spend that long just getting my taping knife clean.
