Can we talk about the city's permit office for basement suites?

I submitted plans for a legal basement suite in my Bonnie Doon bungalow last March, and the approval just came through last week, a full 14 months later. The hold-up was a back-and-forth over window egress sizes that took three separate review cycles to get right. Has anyone else had a specific city requirement stall their project for over a year?

Ugh, that's brutal... the city hall red tape is unreal sometimes.

Honestly, I once got lost in their forms for so long I started to forget my own name.

Are you sure about that? Honestly, I've had the opposite experience every time I've dealt with them. Their online system is pretty straightforward once you get past the first page, and the people at the counter have always been patient with me. Maybe it depends on what you're trying to do or when you go, but I've never felt like it was a total maze. Ngl, I'd take a little paperwork over waiting in line any day.
